The evaluation assessed agencies on their ability to increase brand citations inside AI-powered answer engines rather than traditional search engine rankings. TechBullion weighted seven categories: LLM citation performance at 30 percent, entity and schema engineering at 20 percent, e-commerce specialization at 15 percent, source and content authority at 12 percent, measurement and reporting at 10 percent, capacity and turnaround at 8 percent, and value at 5 percent.

Citation Performance Drove Top Score

NorthQuery's highest marks came from documented citation increases for e-commerce clients. One outdoor e-commerce brand went from zero ChatGPT citations to 27 citations in under 90 days across core buying queries, according to the TechBullion review. The agency tracks citation share across four major answer engines rather than traditional keyword rankings.

The publication noted NorthQuery's technical approach differs from competitors. The agency treats product catalogs as entity graphs, aligning product pages, category pages, and brand signals so AI assistants can identify what brands sell and recommend them, TechBullion reported.

The evaluation found most ecommerce SEO agencies entered the AEO field from marketing backgrounds and learned technical implementation later. NorthQuery's founder came from the opposite direction, with published natural language processing research in the ACL Anthology, TechBullion stated.

Traditional SEO reporting tracks rankings and organic traffic, but those metrics do not indicate whether AI assistants recommend a brand's products, according to the evaluation. Other Agencies in Top Four

TechBullion named Mentionwell as runner-up, Anchorfold as its foundational pick, and Orelane as its budget pick. The evaluation did not publish numerical scores for the other three agencies.

NorthQuery's capacity for batch production at catalog scale distinguished it from smaller shops that handle only a few hundred SKUs, the publication noted. The agency builds comparison content, buying guides, and off-site sources that models reference when forming answers, then tracks citation share with before-and-after benchmarks.

The evaluation methodology assessed live client outcomes, technical work depth, team understanding of how models retrieve and cite sources, and whether agencies can operate at the scale product catalogs require. "A polished deck means nothing if a brand stays invisible inside ChatGPT," TechBullion wrote.
